1. The Courtship — Pursued Before You Ever Knew It
Every love story has a beginning that happens before the couple ever says "I do." Someone notices. Someone pursues. Someone chooses to love before they know if that love will be returned.
That's where your story with God begins too, whether you've recognized it yet or not.
The King Who Chose to Pursue
God is the King of the universe. He owns everything — all of creation, space, time, and matter. He holds all the power, all the wealth, all the glory a heart could ever chase after. And yet He chooses to love and pursue every single one of us.
Why would a King do that? Because the very essence of God is love, and love can only be experienced in relationship. More than that, love has to be a choice. So God gave us the one thing that makes real love possible: free will. He wants us — all of us — to choose Him when there are other things we could choose instead.

A Prince in Disguise
Here's the catch for a King who wants to be loved for who He is: how could He ever know if the love offered to Him was real, or if it was just people loving what He could give them?
Picture a handsome, powerful prince — heir to the throne, renowned across the kingdom. Everyone knows his face. He has the finest horses, the fastest chariot, and every woman in the land would love to be his bride, even without having met him. When the time comes for him to choose a queen, how could he ever know if a woman loved him for who he was rather than for what he had?
The only way is for the prince to humble himself. To set aside the crown for a while. To appear as a commoner, and to court as a gentleman instead of ruling as a king. That's the only way to separate true love from selfish gain.
That's exactly what God did for us. He humbled Himself and took on the form of a servant in Jesus Christ. Though He existed eternally within the Trinity, He chose to put on flesh and walk among us — because love, real love, has to be a decision of free will. Jesus showed us that love through His sacrifice.
And even today, God remains a gentleman. He doesn't announce Himself with a fiery pillar or thunder His voice through the storm. His pursuit is gentle. We see it in His grace — the things He gives us that we don't deserve. And we see it in His mercy — the punishment we do deserve, that He withholds. We all fall short. We've all hurt someone, lied, broken trust somewhere along the way. But God doesn't meet our failure with punishment. That restraint is mercy, and it's aimed at your heart specifically.

2. The Wedding – Saying “Yes” to God
Every marriage begins with a choice. On the wedding day, a man and woman stand before each other and declare: “I choose you.”

“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”

.“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” (John 10:27)
Intimacy Empowers Prayer
Shallow intimacy makes for shallow prayer. Deep intimacy makes for bold, powerful prayer.
James 5:16 says:
“The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”
Why? Because intimacy aligns your heart with His will.
